Feasts – Part Three

Look Up Child - Lyrics

Look Up Child

Oh where are You now
When darkness seems to win?
Oh where are You now
When the world is crumbling?

Oh I — I — I hear You say
I hear You say
Look up child (hey)
Look up child (hey)

Oh where are You now
When all I feel is doubt?
Oh, where are You now
When I can’t figure it out?

Oh I — I — I hear You say
I hear You say
Look up child (hey)
Look up child (hey)

Look up child (hey)
Look up child (hey)
Look up

You’re not threatened by the war
You’re not shaken by the storm
I know You’re in control
Even in our suffering
Even when it can’t be seen
I know You’re in control

Oh I — I — I hear You say
I hear You say – Look up
Oh I — I — I hear You say
I hear You say

Look up child (hey)
Look up child (hey)
(repeat)

The Kingdom is Yours - Lyrics

The Kingdom is Yours

Blessed are the ones who do not bury
All the broken pieces of their heart
Blessed are the tears of all the weary
Pouring like a sky of falling stars

Blessed are the wounded ones in mourning
Brave enough to show the Lord their scars
Blessed are the hurts that are not hidden
Open to the healing touch of God

The Kingdom is yours
The Kingdom is yours
Hold on a little more, this is not the end
Hope is in the Lord
Keep your eyes on Him

Blessed are the ones who walk in kindness
Even in the face of great abuse
Blessed are the deeds that go unnoticed
Serving with unguarded gratitude

Blessed are the ones who fight for justice
Longing for the coming day of peace
Blessed is the soul
that thirsts for righteousness
Welcoming the last, the lost, the least

The Kingdom is yours
The Kingdom is yours
Hold on a little more, this is not the end
Hope is in the Lord
Keep your eyes on Him

The Kingdom is yours
The Kingdom is yours
Hold on a little more, this is not the end
Hope is in the Lord
Keep your eyes on Him

Blessed are the ones who suffer violence
And still have strength to love their enemies
Blessed is the faith of those who persevere
Though they fall, they’ll never know defeat

The Kingdom is yours
The Kingdom is yours
Hold on a little more, this is not the end
Hope is in the Lord
Keep your eyes on Him

The Kingdom is yours
The Kingdom is yours
Hold on a little more, this is not the end
Hope is in the Lord
Keep your eyes on Him

House of God Forever - Lyrics

House of God Forever

God is my shepherd
I won’t be wanting
I won’t be wanting
He makes me rest
In fields of green
with quiet streams

Even though I walk
Through the valley
of death and dying
I will not fear
Cause you are with me
You are with me

Your shepherd’s staff
Comforts me
You are my feast
In the presence of enemies

Surely goodness
Will follow me
Follow me
In the house of God forever

God is my shepherd
I won’t be wanting
I won’t be wanting
He makes me rest
In fields of green
with quiet streams

Even though I walk
Through the valley
of death and dying
I will not fear
Cause you are with me
You are with me

Your shepherd’s staff
Comforts me
You are my feast
In the presence of enemies

Surely goodness
Will follow me
Follow me
In the house of God forever

In the house of God forever
In the house of God forever

Hurricane - Lyrics

Hurricane

I see the world
Breaking and falling apart
Ans I don’t know what to do with it
What to do with it

I see hate
Building up all of these walls
Turns family into enemy
What do we do with it?

I see love rising like a hurricane
Rising like a dead man
coming up out of the grave
I feel love rising in my chest again
Rising like a burning sun into the day

I see a world
Aching and longing to be
All of it’s wars over and gone
In peace finally

And every heart
This is where all of it starts
You and I and our differences
And what we do with it

I see love rising like a hurricane
Rising like a dead man
coming up out of the grave
I feel love rising in my chest again
Rising like a burning sun into the day

I see love rising like a hurricane
Rising like a dead man
coming up out of the grave
I feel love rising in my chest again
Rising like a burning sun into the day

I see love rising like a hurricane
Rising like a dead man
coming up out of the grave
I feel love rising in my chest again
Rising like a burning sun into the day

Feasts - Part Three (Sermon notes and images)
Luke 14:1-24
1 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched. 2 There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. 3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?” 4 But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.

5 Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?” 6 And they had nothing to say.

7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.”

16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’

18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’

19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’

20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’

22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’

23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”

“Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.”

Luke 14:
16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
18 “But they all alike began to make excuses.

“A village host must provide meat for the banquet. The meat will be killed and cooked on the basis of the number of guests. A host sends out invitations and receives acceptance. He then decides on the killing/butchering of a chicken or two (for 2-4 guests), or a duck (for 5-8), or a kid (10-15 acceptances), or a sheep (if there are 15-35 people), or a calf (35-75). That is, the decision regarding the kind of meat and the amount is made mostly on the basis of the number of accepted invitations. Once the countdown starts it cannot be stopped. The appropriate animal is killed and must be eaten that night. The guests who accept the invitation are duty-bound to appear.”

Luke 14 (Cont’d):
The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’
19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’
20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

“No one in the Middle East buys a field without knowing every square foot of it like the palm of his hand. The springs, wells, stone walls, trees, paths, and anticipated rainfall are all well-known long before a discussion of the purchase is even begun… The purchaser will also know the human history of the field. He will be able to tell you who has owned it for generations… The few plots of agricultural land are so crucial to life in Arab Palestine these plots had proper names… Thus, in a world of increasing population, limited land space, and the growth of a landless tenantry, the host of the banquet is to believe that a field has been suddenly bought sight unseen.”

Luke 14 (Cont’d):
21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’
22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’
23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”

When Bar Ma’ayan, the tax collector died, the whole town took time off to mourn him. Now what was the meritorious deed which Bar Ma’ayan the village tax collector had done?
Heaven forfend! He never did a meritorious deed in his life. But one time he made a banquet for the councilors of his town, but they did not come. He said, “Let the poor come and eat the food, so that it does not go to waste.”

Consumption vs. Community

Is there a way to love always?
Living in enemy hallways
Don’t know my foes from my friends and
I don’t know my friends anymore
Power has several prizes
Handcuffs can come in all sizes
Love has a million disguises
But winning is simply not one

All the Poor and Powerless - Lyrics

All the Poor and Powerless

All the poor and powerless
And all the lost and lonely
And all the thieves will come confess
And know that You are holy
And know that You are holy

And all will sing out
Hallelujah
We will cry out
Hallelujah

All the hearts who are content
And all who feel unworthy
And all who hurt with nothing left
Will know that You are holy

And all will sing out – Hallelujah
We will cry out – Hallelujah
All will sing out – Hallelujah
And we will cry out – Hallelujah

Shout it
Go on and scream it from the mountains
Go on and tell it to the masses
That He is God
(repeat 4x)

We will sing out
Hallelujah
We will cry out
Hallelujah
We will sing out
Hallelujah, God

Your Love Awakens Me - Lyrics

Your Love Awakens Me

There were walls between us
By the cross you came and
broke them down – You broke them down

There were chains around us
By Your grace we are no longer bound
No longer bound

You called me out of the grave
You called me into the light
You called my name and then
my heart came alive

Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens – awakens
Awakens me

Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens – awakens
Awakens me

Feel the darkness shaking
All the dead are coming
Back to life – Back to life
Hear the song awaken
All creation singing
We’re alive – ‘Cause You’re alive

You called me out of the grave
You called me into the light
You called my name and then
my heart came alive

Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens – awakens
Awakens me

Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens – awakens
Awakens me

And what a love we found
Death can’t hold us down
We shout it out
We’re alive ’cause you’re alive
(Repeat 3x)

Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens – awakens
Awakens me

Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens – awakens
Awakens me

Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens – awakens
Awakens me

Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens – awakens
Awakens me
