The 2nd Greatest Commandment – Part Two – The Cost

Holy Water - Lyrics

Holy Water

God, I’m on my knees again
God, I’m begging please again
I need You
Oh, I need You

Walking down these desert roads
Water for my thirsty soul
I need You
Oh, I need You

Your forgiveness
Is like sweet, sweet honey
On my lips
Like the sound of a symphony
To my ears
Like Holy water on my skin

Dead man walking, slave to sin
I wanna know about being born again
I need You
Oh, God, I need You

So, take me to the riverside
Take me under, baptize
I need You
Oh, God, I need You

Your forgiveness
Is like sweet, sweet honey
On my lips
Like the sound of a symphony
To my ears
Like Holy water on my skin

I don’t wanna abuse Your grace
God, I need it every day
It’s the only thing that ever really
Makes me wanna change

Your forgiveness
Is like sweet, sweet honey
On my lips
Like the sound of a symphony
To my ears
Like Holy water

Your forgiveness
Is like sweet, sweet honey
On my lips
Like the sound of a symphony
To my ears
Like Holy water on my skin

like Holy water on my skin
like Holy water on my skin

Walk With Me, Lord - Lyrics

Walk With Me, Lord

Walk with me, Lord
Walk with me
Walk with me, Lord
Walk with me

While I’m on this tedious journey
I want Jesus
to walk with me

Hold my hand, Lord
Hold my hand
Hold my hand, Lord
Hold my hand

While I’m on this tedious journey
I want Jesus
to hold my hand

Walk with me, Lord
Walk with me
Walk with me, Lord
Walk with me

While I’m on this tedious journey
I want Jesus
to walk with me

Sinking Deep - Lyrics

Sinking Deep

Standing here in Your presence
In a grace so relentless
I am won – by perfect love
Wrapped within the arms of heaven
In a peace that lasts forever
Sinking deep – in mercy’s sea

I’m wide awake
Drawing close – stirred by grace
And all my heart is Yours
All fear removed – I breathe You in
I lean into Your love
Oh, Your love

When I’m lost You pursue me
Lift my head to see Your glory
Lord of all – So beautiful
Here in You I find shelter
Captivated by the splendor
Of Your face – My secret place

I’m wide awake
Drawing close – stirred by grace
And all my heart is Yours
All fear removed – I breathe You in
I lean into Your love
Oh, Your love

Your love so deep
Is washing over me
Your face is all I seek
You are my everything

Jesus Christ
You are my one desire
Lord hear my only cry
To know You all my life

Love so deep
Is washing over me
Your face is all I seek
You are my everything

Jesus Christ
You are my one desire
Lord hear my only cry
To know You all my life

I’m wide awake
Drawing close – stirred by grace
And all my heart is Yours
All fear removed – I breathe You in
I lean into Your love
Oh, Your love

Desert Song - Lyrics

Desert Song

This is my prayer in the desert
When all that’s within me feels dry
This is my prayer and my hunger in me
My God is the God who provides

And this is my prayer in the fire
In weakness or trial or pain
There is a faith proved
Of more worth than gold
So refine me Lord through the flames

I will bring praise – I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice – I will declare
God is my victory and He is here

And this is my prayer in my battle
When triumph is still on its way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I’ll stand

I will bring praise – I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice – I will declare
God is my victory and He is here

All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship
(Repeat 4x)

I will bring praise – I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice – I will declare
God is my victory and He is here

And this is my prayer in the harvest
When favor and providence flow
I know I’m filled to be emptied again
This seed I’ve received I will sow

The Second Greatest Commandment - Part Two - The Cost (Sermon Notes)
Luke 4:16-30

16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 Everyone remarked at him; they were astonished at the words coming out of his mouth – words of sheer grace. ‘Isn’t this Joseph’s son?’ they said.

23 Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”
24 “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown. 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”

28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. 30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

Leader: The word of the Lord
Everyone: Thanks be to God

“He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God.”

רֶמֶז‎

“they were astonished at the words coming out of his mouth — words of sheer grace.” — Luke 4:22

“Luke says that the people ‘were astonished at the words of sheer grace that were coming out of his mouth’. Sometimes people have understood this simply to mean, ‘they were astonished at what a good speaker he was’. But it seems more likely that he means ‘they were astonished that he was speaking about God’s grace – grace for everybody, including the nations – instead of grace for Israel and fierce judgment for everyone else’. That fits perfectly with what followed.” — NT Wright

“Who does he think he is? Isn’t he Joseph’s son, who grew up here in Nazareth?” — TPT (The Passion Translation)

“Wait. This is only the son of Joseph, right?” — VOICE (The Voice Translation)

“Jesus is pointing out that when the great prophets were active, it wasn’t Israel who benefited, but only the pagans.” — NT Wright

“Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” — Mark 12:28-31

“I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household. Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me.” — Matthew 10:34-37

“In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.” — Romans 1:27

“This doesn’t make sense to me. This isn’t my story. I never had natural desires to abandon. But I sure did pray to have them. Every day. For years. Either Paul never had a gay friend, or he was talking about something else. Because he was definitely not talking about my gay experience or anyone I know.”

Beautiful Scandalous Night - Lyrics

Beautiful Scandalous Night

Go on up to the mountain of mercy
To the crimson perpetual tide
Kneel down on the shore
be thirsty no more
Go under and be purified

Follow Christ to the holy mountain
Sinner sorry and wrecked by the fall
Cleanse your heart and your soul
in the fountain that flows
For you and for me and for all

At the wonderful tragic mysterious tree
On a beautiful scandalous night you and me
We’re atoned by His blood
and forever washed white
On that beautiful scandalous night

On the hillside you will be delivered
At the foot of the cross justified
And your spirit restored
by the river that pours
From my blessed Savior’s side

At the wonderful tragic mysterious tree
On a beautiful scandalous night you and me
We’re atoned by His blood
and forever washed white
On that beautiful scandalous night

Go on up to the mountain of mercy
To the crimson perpetual tide
Kneel down on the shore
be thirsty no more
Go under and be purified

At the wonderful tragic mysterious tree
On a beautiful scandalous night you and me
We’re atoned by His blood
and forever washed white
On that beautiful scandalous night

At the wonderful tragic mysterious tree
On a beautiful scandalous night you and me
We’re atoned by His blood
and forever washed white
On that beautiful scandalous night

On that beautiful scandalous night
On that beautiful scandalous night

Still Rolling Stones - Lyrics

Still Rolling Stones

Out of the shadows
Bound for the gallows
A dead man walking
Till love came calling
Rise up — Rise up

Six feet under
I thought it was over
An answer to prayer
The voice of a Savior
Rise up — Rise up

All at once I came alive
This beating heart, these open eyes
The grave let go
The darkness should have known
You’re still rolling stones
You’re still rolling stones

Now that You saved me
I sing ’cause You gave me
A song of revival
I put it on vinyl
Rise up — Rise up

I once was blinded
But now I see it
I heard about the power
And now I believe it
Rise up — Rise up

All at once I came alive
This beating heart, these open eyes
The grave let go
The darkness should have known
You’re still rolling stones
You’re still rolling stones

I thought that I was too far gone
For everything I’ve done wrong
Yeah, I’m the one who dug this grave
But You called my name
You called my name

I thought that I was too far gone
For everything I’ve done wrong
Yeah, I’m the one who dug this grave
But You called my name
You called my name

All at once I came alive
This beating heart, these open eyes
The grave let go
The darkness should have known
You’re still rolling stones
You’re still rolling stones

You’re still rolling stones
You’re still rolling stones
