The 2nd Greatest Commandment – Part One

Riverside - Lyrics

Riverside

I’m gonna lay down my burden
Down by the riverside
Down by the riverside

I’m gonna lay down my sword and shield
Down by the riverside
Down by the riverside

I’m gonna study war no more
Gonna study war no more
I’m gonna study war no more

I’m gonna lay down my burden
Down by the riverside
Down by the riverside

I’m gonna lay down my guns and steel
Down by the riverside
Down by the riverside

I’m gonna study war no more
Gonna study war no more
I’m gonna study war no more

I’m gonna study war no more
Gonna study war no more
I’m gonna study war no more

I won’t study war (x4)

I’m gonna lay down my burden
Down by the riverside
Down by the riverside

I’m gonna lay down my sword and shield
Down by the riverside
Down by the riverside

From the Inside Out - Lyrics

From the Inside Out

A thousand times I’ve failed
Still Your mercy remains
And should I stumble again
I’m caught in Your grace

Everlasting
Your light will shine
when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

Your will above all else
My purpose remains
The art of losing myself
In bringing You praise

Everlasting
Your light will shine
when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

My heart and my soul
I give You control
Consume me from the inside out,
Let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love you from the inside out

Everlasting
Your light will shine
when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

And the cry of my heart
Is to bring You praise
From the inside out
Oh my soul cries out, Lord

My heart and my soul
I give You control
Consume me from the inside out,
Let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love you from the inside out

Everlasting
Your light will shine
when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

And the cry of my heart
Is to bring You praise
From the inside out
Oh my soul cries out

Everlasting
Your light will shine
when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

And the cry of my heart
Is to bring You praise
From the inside out
Oh my soul cries out
From the inside out
Oh my soul cries out, Lord

Want - Lyrics

Want

I don’t want to have feet of stone
I don’t want to have feet of stone
I wanna follow this river of life
where it will have me go
I don’t want to have feet of stone

I don’t want to have a dagger tongue
I don’t want to have a dagger tongue
I don’t want my words to be a weapon
but a healing balm
I don’t want to have a dagger tongue

I don’t want to have a heavy mind
I don’t want to have a heavy mind
I don’t wanna hold these thoughts
that are chains of iron
I don’t want to have a heavy mind

I want to have eyes of love
I want to have eyes of love
Count the beggar mans life
precious as my own
Offer my back for my brothers load
I want to have eyes of love
I want to have eyes of love

It Is Well - Lyrics

It Is Well

Grander earth has quaked before
Moved by the sound of His voice
Seas that are shaken and stirred
Can be calmed and broken for my regard

And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
And through it all, through it all
It is well

And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
And it is well with me

And far be it from me to not believe
Even when my eyes can’t see
And this mountain that’s in front of me
Will be thrown into the midst of the sea

And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
And through it all, through it all
It is well

And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
And it is well
It is well

So let go my soul and trust in Him
The waves and wind still know His name
(Repeat 3x)

The waves and wind still know His name

It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well
It is well with my soul

It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul

And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
And through it all, through it all
It is well

And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
And it is well with me

The Second Greatest Commandment - Part One (Sermon Notes)
Mark 12:28-34

28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

Luke 10:25-37
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

Leviticus 19:18
“Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Holiness Code – Leviticus 17-26

Leviticus 19:1-18:
1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.
3 “‘Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.
4 “‘Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God…

9 “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.
11 “‘Do not steal.
“‘Do not lie.
“‘Do not deceive one another.
12 “‘Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.

13 “‘Do not defraud or rob your neighbor.
“‘Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight.
14 “‘Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the Lord.
15 “‘Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.
16 “‘Do not go about spreading slander among your people.
“‘Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord.

17 “‘Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt.
18 “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

Leviticus 21:1-4:
1 The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them: ‘A priest must not make himself ceremonially unclean (by touching a dead body) for any of his people who die, 2 except for a close relative, such as his mother or father, his son or daughter, his brother.

Leviticus 22:4-6:
4 “‘If a descendant of Aaron (i.e. a Levite) has a defiling skin disease or a bodily discharge, he may not eat the sacred offerings until he is cleansed. He will also be unclean if he touches something defiled by a corpse… 6 The one who touches any such thing will be unclean till evening. He must not eat any of the sacred offerings unless he has bathed himself with water.

Luke 10:25-37 (continued)
29 But he (the expert in the law) wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Pirke Avot 1:1
Moses received the Torah from Sinai, and handed it down to Joshua, and Joshua to the elders, and the elders to the prophets, and the prophets delivered it to the men of the Great Synagogue. They said three things, “Be deliberate in judgment; raise up many disciples; and (underline) make a hedge around the Torah (/underline).”

God I Look to You - Lyrics

God I Look to You

God, I look to You
I won’t be overwhelmed
Give me vision to see things like You do
God I look to You
You’re where my help comes from
Give me wisdom, You know just what to do

God, I look to You
I won’t be overwhelmed
Give me vision to see things like You do
God I look to You
You’re where my help comes from
Give me wisdom, You know just what to do

And I will love You Lord my strength
And I will love You Lord my shield
And I will love You Lord my rock forever
All my days I will love You God

Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns

Praise Him all you sinners
Sing oh sing you weary

Shown throughout our stories
