The Kingdom is Yours – Part Four
Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

Multiplied - Lyrics

Multiplied

Your love is like radiant diamonds
Bursting inside us we cannot contain
Your love will surely come find us
Like blazing wild fires singing Your name

God of mercy sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the skies
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied

Your love is like radiant diamonds
Bursting inside us we cannot contain
Your love will surely come find us
Like blazing wild fires singing Your name

God of mercy sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the skies
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied

God of mercy sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the skies
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied

Heavenly Things - Lyrics

Heavenly Things

Over and under
You’re far and Your wide
I’m only human
but not in Your eyes

You made me for heaven
I’m a heavenly thing
So help me remember
how You look at me

You’re over the sky
and You’re under the deep
You’re sweetly in love
with Your heavenly things
You’re over Your head
You’re head over heels in love — with me

Over and under
You’re far and Your wide
I’m only human
but not in Your eyes

You made me for heaven
I’m a heavenly thing
So help me remember
how You look at me

You’re over the sky
and You’re under the deep
You’re sweetly in love
with Your heavenly things
You’re over Your head
You’re head over heels in love

You’re over the sky
and You’re under the deep
You’re sweetly in love
with Your heavenly things
You’re over Your head
You’re head over heels in love — with me

You made me for heaven
I am a heavenly thing
(repeat x4)

You’re over the sky
and You’re under the deep
You’re sweetly in love
with Your heavenly things
You’re over Your head
You’re head over heels in love — with me

Lift Your Voice - Lyrics

Lift Your Voice

Blessed are you weary sinner
The one whose hope is gone
Blessed are all of the broken
God can hear your song

Lift your voice
Lift your voice
Lift your voice
Lift your voice

We are blind to injustice
We don’t see the part we play
We’ve grown numb with our privilege
We pass by pain every day

Open our eyes
Open our eyes
Open our eyes
Open our eyes

God sends rain on the righteous
The common, the rich, and the poor
Trinity dancin’ through darkness
God’s love gives hope evermore

Lift your voice
Lift your voice
Lift your voice
Lift your voice

Welcome all to the table
Every man, woman, and child
Come and feast with thanksgiving
We come and reconcile

Open our hearts
Open our hearts
Open our hearts
Open our hearts

Open our hearts
Open our hearts
Open our hearts
Open our hearts

All Creatures of Our God and King - Lyrics

All Creatures of Our God and King

All creatures of our God and King
Life up your voice and with us sing
O praise Him, Hallelujah

Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O praise Him, O praise Him
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Thou rushing wind that art so strong
Ye clouds that sail in Heaven along
O praise Him, Hallelujah

Thou rising moon in praise rejoice
Ye lights of evening find a voice
O praise Him, O praise Him
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him, Hallelujah

Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son
And praise the Spirit, three in one
O praise Him, O praise Him
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah

O Hallelujah, Hallelujah
O Hallelujah, Hallelujah
(repeat)

Scripture Reading

Matthew 5:1-10

Matthew 5:1-10. When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them. He said:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Sermon Slides: Images and Quotes

Matthew 5:20. “Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Galatians 3:28. “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
from Everything Belongs by Richard Rohr: “Religion should lead us into that space [where we] deconstruct the old “normal” world. Much of my criticism of religion comes about when I see it not only affirming the system of normalcy but teaching folks how to live there comfortably. Cheap religion teaches us how to live successfully in a sick system.”
from Everything Belongs by Richard Rohr: When you get more, it still doesn’t satisfy. And so Jesus says, “Why not go the exact opposite direction? Directly and positively choose emptiness until it loses its terror.”
from Everything Belongs by Richard Rohr: “I’ve never, in all the Christian world, found a church named Christ the Prophet. Nor is there any feast day called Christ the Prophet. This may be because we don’t want Christ to deconstruct the system. We only want the King who blesses the status quo. Indeed, most religion is “legitimating religion.” It is invoked for social control and public order. It tells us it’s okay to live in toxic and unjust environments — just as long as you have a personal relationship with Jesus inside of the sick system. Pope Paul VI said it well: “There can never be personal conversion without also working for societal transformation.”
Death in his Grave - Lyrics

Death in his Grave

Though the earth cried out for blood
Satisfied her hunger was
Billows calmed on raging seas
For the souls of men she craved

Sun and moon from balcony
Turned their head in disbelief
Precious love would taste the sting
Disfigured and disdained

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a king
Laid down in grief
But woke with the keys

Of hell on that day
First born of the slain
The man Jesus Christ laid
Death in his grave

So three days in darkness slept
The morning sun of righteousness
But rose to shame the throes of death
And overturn his rule

Now daughters and the sons of men
Would pay not their dues again
The debt of blood they owed was rent
When the day rolled anew

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a king
Laid down in grief
But woke with the keys

Of hell on that day
First born of the slain
The man Jesus Christ laid
Death in his grave

He has cheated
hell and seated
us above the fall
In desperate places
he paid our wages
One time, once and for all

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a king
Laid down in grief
But woke with the keys

Of hell on that day
First born of the slain
The man Jesus Christ laid
Death in his grave

The man Jesus Christ laid
Death in his grave
The man Jesus Christ laid
Death in his grave

O Love That Will Not Let Me Go - Lyrics

O Love That Will Not Let Me Go

O Love that will not let me go
I rest my weary soul in thee
I give thee back the life I owe
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer fuller be

O Light that follow’st all my way
I yield my flick’ring torch to thee
My heart restores its borrowed ray
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter fairer be

O Joy that seekest me through pain
I cannot close my heart to thee
I trace the rainbow through the rain
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be

O Cross that liftest up my head
I dare not ask to fly from thee
I lay in dust life’s glory dead
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be

O Love that will not let me go
I rest my weary soul in thee
I give thee back the life I owe
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer fuller be
