Bulletin for Sunday, July 24

Current Series

Mark 4:1-9

1 Jesus began teaching by the lakeshore. A very large crowd soon gathered around him, so he got into a boat. Then he sat in the boat while all the people remained on the shore. 2 He taught them by telling many stories in the form of parables, such as this one:

3 “Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seed. 4 As he scattered it across his field, some of the seed fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate it. 5 Other seed fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seed sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. 6 But the plant soon wilted under the hot sun, and since it didn’t have deep roots, it died. 7 Other seed fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants so they produced no grain. 8 Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they sprouted, grew, and produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” 9 Then he said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”

      Kids Church Volunteers Needed

We’ve enjoyed a wonderful month of family-friendly worship throughout July, giving all of our children’s ministry volunteers a much needed break! Regular Kids Church will resume on Sunday, August 7 … and we are in need of 5-7 new volunteers to step forward and serve. Volunteer roles are only once each month, allowing everyone a chance to enjoy full worship 3 out of 4 weeks. Interested? Use the Contact Form (above) to let us know!

      Pizza and a Movie!! (7/24)

We’ve CHANGED PLANS for today’s post-church family activity! In light of the near triple-digit heat, instead of heading over to our community garden, we’re going to stay indoors, have a pizza lunch together and then head over to Blue Ridge Cinemas for the 1pm showing of The Jungle Book. Pizza’s on us! Movie is on you (please let us know if you need help).

      Pokemon Go Event! (7/24)

Our Pokemon Go youth event will take place immediately after our pizza lunch! Instead of heading over to the movie, all youth (middle school and high school) will head over to Crabtree Valley Mall for some air-conditioned Pokemon hunting! If you are the parent of a youth, stay up to date through our Connekkt Youth Facebook page!

      RRM Dinner Today! (7/24)

We’re keeping things simple for today’s dinner service at the Raleigh Rescue Mission (314 E Hargett St, Raleigh, NC 27601). Pizza!! But we will need a few hands-on-deck for the 4:30pm shift only (no 2:30pm shift today).

      Star Trek: Beyond (7/28)

For men’s group this week, we are diverting from our regular Thursday night bible study for a night at the movies! Dads — feel free to bring your sons. MOVIE STARTS AT 7:20pm. More details on our Men’s Facebook Page!

Worship at Mt. Peace Baptist Church (7/31)

Next Sunday, we continue our ongoing relationship with Mt Peace Baptist Church. This is an intentional undertaking by both faith communities to fight against racism and division, and instead to seek reconciliation, worshiping together … become a sacrament of the world’s possibility. We will be joined by special guest, Dr. J. Kameron Carter, Professor of Theology and Black Church Studies at Duke Divinity School. It’s going to be a powerful day of worship together. Please join us.
