Current Sermon / Series

Amos 3; Isaiah 1; Jeremiah 29

From Amos 3. “Hear this word, people of Israel, the word the Lord has spoken against you—against the whole family I brought up out of Egypt: … Take your seats now on the hills around Samaria, and witness the chaos and oppression in Israel. My people have forgotten how to do right,” says the Lord. “Their fortresses are filled with wealth taken by theft and violence. Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream! … You who trample the needy and do away with the poor of the land, …buying the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals. Therefore you will be among the first to go into exile; your feasting and lounging will end.”

From Isaiah 1. “When you come to worship me, who asked you to parade through my courts with all your ceremony? Stop bringing me your meaningless gifts; the incense of your offerings disgusts me! I want no more of your pious meetings. They are a burden to me. I cannot stand them! When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with blood.”

From Jeremiah 29. “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, 5 ‘Build houses and live in them; and plant gardens and eat their produce. 6 Take wives and become the fathers of sons and daughters, and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply there and do not decrease. 7 Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf; for in its welfare you will have welfare.’”

The rules are simple: (1) bring an ornament in an opaque bag for the exchange, (2) bring a dish and/or drink to share, (3) have fun! This is basically an excuse for the women of Ekklesia together together, eat, and laugh (without kids getting in the way!) 🙂 It is always a ton of fun. This year, Holly Stephens will be hosting, and weather permitting we will even have a fire out back. If you have any questions, email Holly at [email protected]. [learn more]
