Bulletin for April 2, 2017

Current Series

Matthew 6:5-13

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

10 your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us today our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

A Survey about “Vocation and Faith”

A group of people in the church who have found some success, balance, and fulfillment in the world of business are hoping to start a ministry (of sorts) to help others in our midst with financial planning, vocational direction, etc. To give shape to this conversation and understand what questions people have, we’ve created a survey. Please take a few minutes to fill it out.

      Holy Week

Holy Week (i.e. the week leading up and including Easter) is approaching quickly. Here are a few important reminders as we prepare:

      (1) Lenten Offering: Don’t forget your giving jars and our annual Lenten offering. This is a special offering (separate from regular giving) in which we give the fruits of our Lenten fasts to serve our community. Whatever we collect for our Lent offering is matched by the church and used to purchase school supplies for families in the community (given out at our Block Party).

      (2) Good Friday Worship (6pm): Good Friday is a bit of a misnomer. (Friday doesn’t become good until Sunday.) It is a day we reflect on Jesus’ crucifixion. Join us for a unique evening of worship and reflection on this important day!

      (3) Easter Sunday (10:30am): Our Easter service will take place at our normal time, but please make sure to arrive on time. This is the most important day of the year, and you won’t want to miss a minute of worship!

      Men’s Spring Camp Out (4/21 – 4/22)

Join us overnight April 21-22 for good food, camp fire, great people, beautiful surroundings and hopefully some GREAT spring weather! Don’t have camping gear? No worries! We’ve got you covered. DADS – please bring your sons. This is a father-son friendly event. This location is particularly fishermen friendly. And so, if you have bass or catfishing gear, please bring it! Questions? Post any questions on our men’s FB event page. (NOTE: The bulletin listed the incorrect dates last week. These are the correct dates • April 21-22.)

      LENT Giving Jars

As part of Lent each year, we encourage everyone to undertake two fasts: one that frees up time (perhaps a favorite TV show?), and another that frees up resources (maybe soda or alcohol or eating out). The goal is to repurpose the time and resources to expand our hearts toward God and others. With the resources we free up, we will be taking a special offering on Easter to go toward our school supply giveaway / block party event in August! Be sure to pick up a giving jar to take home with you and start collecting your saved resources!
